At its core, Her is a deeply emotional exploration of love, loneliness, and the human need for connection, raising profound questions about the role of technology in our lives and the limits of artificial intimacy.
The Intouchables is the story of Philippe, a wealthy paraplegic and Driss, an ex-con who becomes his caregiver. On paper, they are worlds apart—Philippe lives in a gilded cage of privilege and disability, while Driss struggles with poverty and societal rejection. Yet their shared loneliness, though veiled in vastly different circumstances, forms the bedrock of their connection.
Julie Strenn continues to not only provide incredible leadership at ODC, but is also an amazing advocate in this state.
If you’ve ever felt like a social misfit, been the last one picked for the team, or spent a weekend wondering if it’s socially acceptable to talk to your plants; you’ll find a kindred spirit in Eleanor Oliphant. Because Eleanor is anything but completely fine.
Today, many people deal with social isolation, and like Shrek, many times it’s self-imposed. Life in the “swamp” can feel easier — keeping to ourselves might protect us from potential judgment, rejection, or misunderstanding. But just as Shrek discovered, isolation also means we miss out on the support and even the joy that comes with connection.
When Marty hit theaters in 1955, audiences weren’t quite prepared for the lovable Bronx butcher who made bachelorhood look both comfortable and mildly tragic.
The little-known film Room, based on Emma Donoghue’s novel of the same name, is an incredible exploration of social isolation and its psychological impact. The movie beautifully depicts the story of a mother and son, held in captivity for years, their intense bond, their eventual escape, and the challenges they face as they reenter society.
Social isolation has turned Charlie into an observer, not a participant. He’s a literal wallflower, watching life happen from the sidelines. And let’s be honest, most of us have been there at some point. Especially in high school.
